Peace Education and Global Citizenship
I believe it's very important for even the youngest students to believe they have a voice in shaping the future of their world. This project was inspired by my students at Claremont Montessori School, who in turn were inspired by the students at City Montessori in Lucknow, India. Peace education is an important element of the curriculum at this school, which holds the Guinness World Record as having the largest number of students in the world.
My background is in Montessori education and the value-creating pedagogy of T. Makiguchi. Both lived at a time of great turmoil that included global wars and global economic crisis. Theirs was education for a peaceful world based on human dignity.
